About me

Hi, I’m Axel Maniez! As a passionate French teacher, I draw on my experiences both as a teacher and a language learner to shape my approach to teaching. I have taught at the Alliance Française in Vancouver, the Alliance Française in Sydney, and the Institut Français in Munich, working with learners from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. For me, mastering a language hinges on three essential pillars: reading, listening comprehension, and speaking practice. When it comes to learning an idiom, the focus should always be on what we call in linguistics « comprehensible input. » This means using resources that combine engaging content (things YOU enjoy) with a manageable amount of unfamiliar vocabulary (about 20% of the text).

I am dedicated to helping learners incorporate French into their daily lives with ease and joy, using podcasts, articles, videos, and more. To me, language learning is a personal journey of exploration, where the thrill of discovery is the main focus. I encourage my students to build their own intellectual “galaxies” in French, progressing at their own pace, driven by their passions and interests.

To support this vision, I blend an immersive approach (lots of content in the target language) with communicative methods (speaking, speaking, and then speaking some more!). I also integrate technology and playful activities to ensure that engagement and enjoyment remain at the heart of the learning process.
